About
Hi, I’m Tom — a developer who likes building things.
I’ve been freelance for the better part of a decade, working with Michelin-starred restaurants, telecoms firms, e-commerce brands, and the agencies that serve them. These days I lead with Shopify, WordPress, and headless CMS builds — with Next.js and React Router under the hood when the brief calls for it. Still got a soft spot for the PHP I cut my teeth on.
Based in Shropshire, working with clients across the UK and beyond.
How I got here
My journey started, like a lot of devs, with curiosity — taking things apart to see how they worked, then putting them back together in new shapes. PHP and JavaScript were the two languages that stuck, and for years I built WordPress and Laravel sites for agencies across the Midlands.
Along the way, I built a Shopify fulfillment integration that processed over £1 million in revenue, rebranded a Michelin-starred restaurant, and shipped a nationwide e-commerce store for a craft brewery during a pandemic.
These days the work is platform-first — Shopify on Hydrogen: Shopify’s framework for building headless storefronts with React, letting developers build a fully custom front-end that talks to Shopify behind the scenes. or Liquid: Shopify’s templating language — the tags and filters used to build the layout and logic of a Shopify storefront theme., WordPress, content platforms decoupled from their front-ends, all powered by modern JavaScript. The principles are the same: build the right thing, ship it well, maintain it like you mean it.

A few principles.
Simplicity over cleverness
The right solution is usually the boring one. I optimise for readability and longevity, not novelty.
Business value first
Every line of code should serve a real goal. If a feature does not move the needle, it does not ship.
Communication is the work
Half of good freelance work is good communication. You will always know where things stand.
Built to be left
I write code that someone else can pick up. Clean handoffs, sensible conventions, real documentation.
Beyond coding
Outside the editor, I’m an avid cook — the kind who plans dinner before breakfast is finished. Most weekends involve something slow-cooked, a new cuisine, or a well-intentioned experiment that occasionally goes wrong.
I travel when I can — winters tend to involve Thailand and the kind of street food that ruins you for anything else. The rest of the time, Shropshire does just fine.
